This is a link through to a great blog on the BBC website, covering the ascent of Everest carried out by a British medical team in the spring of 2007. It was featured on the Horizon programme on 23 and 30 September 2007.
The team carried out experiments on other team members to get a better understanding of how the human body copes with the effects of low levels of oxygen at high altitude. The results could help them find better ways of treating hospital patients in intensive care, where many succumb to the effects of low oxygen levels in the blood.
There's the Horizon web pages - Doctors in the Death Zone, with some great video highlights from the programmes.
Go to the Caudwell Xtreme Everest site to find out more about the expedition and the research activity. It has its own collection of blogs from different members of the party.
