Introduction (from 30 years on, written around 2001)
This is a diary I did of a walk in Africa in 1972 or thereabouts. I'd gone out on a climbing holiday, worked for a year in a girls' mission school and ended up unemployed with £6 in cash and 10 weeks before there was any chance of further gainful employment.
I decided to attempt to walk across the Serengeti Plains from the town of Arusha. I didn't get very far, got septic feet, got charged by a rhino, almost died of thirst and finally got arrested for spying. The bits in italics are my comments from thirty years on.
